Are You 100% Sure Your Employer Will Pick Up The Bills If You Are Involved In A Serious Road Accident?

Imagine getting up every morning and putting your life in the hands of a stranger? That’s exactly what millions of South Africans do every morning of their lives. If you don’t have your own transport, clocking in at work means early starts, treacherous road conditions and nerves of steel, as thousands of taxis and busses jostle like F1 drivers for pole position on our highways and byways.

Let’s face it, if you commute on SA roads, you run the real risk of being involved in an accident, which could leave you permanently disabled or dead. Last year alone 14,050 people lost their lives on South African roads, and unfortunately those numbers are on the rise. How many of those families, who lost loved ones, are now struggling financially? More than you think.

At Stangen we believe in offering responsible insurance products to responsible people. Our Commuter Cover is a perfect example of that thinking. We’ve identified the need to provide SA commuters with an insurance offering, that is tailored to their very specific needs and isn’t going to break the bank.

What makes this product unique?

We’ve rolled 4 benefits into our Commuter Cover and premiums start from as little as R49pm.

  • Death cover
  • Disability cover
  • Funeral cover
  • ICU cover

We offer 3 different plans with different benefit cover limits: Silver, Gold & Platinum. No medical examinations are required, and it takes less than 3 minutes to take out this cover online.

Plan type Death cover Disability cover Funeral cover ICU cover Premium
Silver R100K R100K R20K R5K R49pm
Gold R200K R200K R20K R10K R69pm
Platinum R500K R500K R50K R25K R129pm

Is your employer going to be ready to pick up the bills if you are involved in an accident?

That’s the real question, isn’t it? If you don’t have a pension/provident fund in place at work, with comprehensive risk benefits (which pay out if you pass away or become disabled) then who exactly is going to pick up the bills if you are involved in a road accident?

Can you be 100% sure that your employer is going to do right by your family if you pass away in an accident? Or have you considered how ugly things might get if you became disabled and need to start legal proceedings to claim compensation from your employer.

It’s time to ‘wise-up’ and make sure you have yourself covered.

If you rely on public or taxi transport to get to work and back every day, you should consider taking out our Commuter Cover policy. It’s comprehensive and inexpensive.

When can you expect a death cover pay-out?

Depending on the plan you pick (Silver, Gold or Platinum), we will pay out a lump sum to your beneficiary if you die from a commuting-related accident. Think of it like any other life insurance benefit, but we only pay on one specific event.

When will you get a disability cover pay-out?

Just like the death cover benefit, we will only pay out when your disability is permanent, and it was as a result of a commuting-related accident.

How long does it take for the funeral benefit to pay out?

The money will be paid to your beneficiary within 24 hours, to cover funeral costs, provided we have all the necessary claim documents.

How does the ICU benefit work?

If you are admitted into an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), because of a commuting-related accident, we will pay the amount specified in your plan, for each hospital admission.

  • Silver plan – R5,000 (only once a year and limited to twice per policy)
  • Gold plan – R10,000 (only once a year and limited to twice per policy)
  • Platinum – R25,000 (only once a year and limited to twice per policy)

What does my Commuter Cover not cover?

  • If the accident is not related to your commute.
  • If the claim is due to or arises from you being over the limit, with regards to your blood alcohol content.
  • Willful exposure to danger, i.e. if you cause your own death.
